Queering is about the joy of being queer. There are a lot of challenges, but I wasn't seeing enough about the joy — and that got me.
The search for that lightness became the directing principle. The show is unpretentious about a big subject, and protecting that tone meant working with ease — a clean, intimate visual style, letting scenes breathe, letting actors improvise, getting out of the way when the material was already doing the work.
